tips&information
- In Korea, suffixes are used after names, and are as follow;
*hyung - what a male calls another male older than him. (ex: minho-hyung.)
*oppa - what a female calls another male older than her (ex: minho-oppa)
*noona - what a male calls a female older than him (ex: hyuna-noona)
*unnie - what a female calls a female older than them (ex: hyuna-unnie)
*nim - highest respect, someone above you in social ranking. Can be combined with hyung/oppa etc. as well. (ex: minho-nim or minho-hyung-nim.)
*sshi - standard formal suffix.
*for those around the same age (or to someone younger) you would use one of two depending on their name.
-ah is used if the person's name ends in a consonant. (ex, Taemin-ah)
-ya is used if a person's name ends in a vowel. (ex, Minho-ya)
*Those older can call someone younger 'dongsaeng' referring to someone who is their junior/younger sibling. To specify a female you can add 'yeo' (yeo dongsaeng) and to specify male you can add 'nam' (nam dongsaeng)
*Mother - umma
*Father - appa
*Aunt (referring to all middle aged woman, usually over 40) - ajumma
*Uncle (male equivalent of ajumma) - ajosshi- Groups generally consist of a vocalist, rapper, maknae, leader, and a dancer, although these may be combined/tweaked/repeated as necessary (excluding leader and maknae).
- Maknae is a term meaning the youngest member of the group.
- Groups are put together by the entertainment companies, as is each members look- regardless of how the individual acts/feels/etc. this can go so far as to include plastic surgeries, hair cuts&styles, etc.
- Korean names generally consist of 3 'syllables' so to speak. The first is the family name, often Kim, Park, etc. The other two are the first name, which are often hyphenated when written out in western characters. For example, Kim Ki Bum and Kim Ki-Bum are both the same name, just written out in different ways. Most idols debut names are often combined, (Kim Kibum) or give a stage name, such as Key.
- In Korea, when you are born you are a year old- and each person 'ages up' on the new year. This means that while someone may be 15 internationally, they could be considered 16 in Korean terms.
- Managers and entertainment companies are extremely demanding and controlling.
- Skinship is a term generally used for bonding through physical contact, such as holding hands, hugging, and so on, done between friends on a platonic level.
- PLEASE DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE FUN OF PLAYING A FAN OR STUDENT. while it may seem as though they have limited options on this site, this is not the case. Fans are arranged in groups based on their biases. For example, S.Park's fans are called sparklers, and referred to as such. They can also aspire to become reporters/idols/etc themselves and work to that goal, as well as explore other aspects of the site. These opportunities will expand and grow as the site does. (Also, they are allowed to audition for an ent. company later on if they wish to.)
- Relationships between idols happen, but rarely are they ever confirmed by agencies, or given much time to grow or become serious.
- Aegyo is another important word in the kpop world- it refers to cuteness or cute actions. This encompasses MANY things and is not at all reserved to females.
- Usually around once a week there will be a schedule posted in ent. groups categories. (One for CEL, one for T-Y, etc.) That will list the appearances your character needs to attend, along with thready links. If there are multiple people in the thread make sure to work out a posting order so nobody gets left out! (These also count as mini activity checks, so make sure to post.)
- You will find out if your character is set to appear on a show by checking their schedules (located under their appropriate ent. group.) If so, there will be a link leading to a pre-made thread where you will post with the others appearing as well. Once the thread is completed a manager will edit it down (just like in real life) and insert gifs of the pbs involved and post it to broadcasts.
- Whats this talk about Kiwi? - Kiwi is a broadcast company we've made up, songs are scheduled to debut and move around according to a number of factors, preplotted by the managers!
- How do we know whats groing on with other characters? Jabdam News is how you will know! To find it, click on the link in the sidebar and enter the password. It will be frequently updated by managers about the goings on at nae-sesang - our own allkpop.com, if you will! It will also include everyone's favorite - celebrity gossip!
- At the moment there are 5 entertainment agencies at nae-sesang.
- P.A.L.
This is the oldest agency, they used to be the leaders in profit and popularity until very recently, and are currently competing with CEL to regain their title. They have a very large fan-base for their groups, and know the ins and outs of the industry - if they want to debut a new group they know exactly who to call to get maximum publicity. Their current breadwinner is PLAY, who holds the title for the most popular girl group - and brings in most of their sales. P.A.L. is a defining cornerstone in the industry.
KNOWN FOR: Most established.- CEL
While not as old as P.A.L. - they have still very well established and have been around for quite a while. Recently, CEL has passed P.A.L. in sales for the first time in history thanks to their approach of debuting many different type of groups to appeal to different fan-bases. Their oldest group, Prestige, rakes in most of their profits though. They are currently backing Glitter to see if they can surpass P.A.L.s ultimate girl group weapon PLAY.- MG
While they haven't been around as long as P.A.L. or CEL, MG has still been in business longer than the rest, and are able to rely on good connections to help out their groups. They have been pretty steady in terms of sales recently, neither rising or declining. They have more of a cool and unique approach to their idol groups than the other entertainment companies. It has been rumored that their CEO has something big up his sleeve though.- S.Park
S.Park has only been around for a couple of years, though they've become incredible popular in a short amount of time because of their first made group SPark. Founded by former singer 'S' by combining his stage name and family name of 'Park' he created the entertainment agency 'S.Park' that sounds like the catchy English word meaning a start to a fire - and this certainly embodies how business has been going for them. To create SPark, S held multiple auditions until he created what he thought to be the perfect group, and due to his incredible intuition the group took off right away, collecting an incredible fan base. S' latest endeavor is a girl group called QTZ who he boasts is the most promising girl group talent-wise in the industry right now.SPark is widely know to be taking over the industry, with their groups topping charts right and left and amassing the most devoted fans.- T-Y
T-Y is a newly created entertainment agency by the lucrative CEO 반한결 (Ban Han-Gyeol.) While he doesn't have a close relationship with many people in the music industry he is able to back T-Y very well financially. He held public auditions to create the upbeat, fresh and young image he was looking for. He has hired an American producer to work out his groups music and has big hopes for Tygur. It seems that the public is eating up their unique sound and fresh style. Ban Han-Gyeol is hoping to eventually make T-Y known globally.- 2BiT
2Bit Entertainment launched five years ago by mysterious mogul twins Han Seung Kyu and Han Seung Hyo, who were formerly famous actors. They've been working to create what they deem the perfect group, crafting a co-ed group that just recently debuted-Bitzy. With eight members, they represent a spectrum, garnering fans for their diverse appeal. 2BiT Ent is slowly gaining a foothold, with a plethora of trainees being groomed for a future venture that is going to
potentially wow Korea.
